Black

Individual reactions to the color black vary. In the past black has been considered a symbol of evil and darkness. Thankfully today black has shed that negative connotation. For the most part the fashion industry can take credit for elevating black out of the darkness and into the light. Black has become a staple element in many wardrobes for both men and women. Black is considered fashionable and goes with everything.

Black absorbs light just as its counterpart white reflects it. The two go together naturally like most opposites do. The benefit of black absorbing light is that it hides flaws and defects. Several words that are used to describe black are powerful, strong, stable, formal, classic, warm and even safe.

Black tends to sharpen not only other colors but the outline of whatever it is on. It catches your eye but it also offers relief. It is considered a neutral just like white. If black is just too dark or absolute for your tastes try a chocolate brown or a charcoal gray or even a deep dark purple. These deep dark colors will still act as a neutral, ground the room and do all that black can and does.
